I totally disagree that a child grows faster (and why should she /he.... let them be children when they are children). I also disagree that TV reality shows help them grow. Yes it exposes them to a certain type of people / language / lack of civility. And if they are left to themselves without a parental guidance or advise as to what is right and wrong then they will grow in the wrong direction!! All the singing talent shows fall in the category. They'd started on a strong footing and were enjoyable but the idea was stretched by several programs till it became absolutely revolting. There is a dearth of good ideas in tv programming and reality shows are indicative of that. Is Jungle... may have been well executed but Rakhi Sawant's Swayamwar was just too irritating an idea. That sort of low portrayal of people just brings the worst of American tv software into our lives. There isn't a single Indian tv serial that I like giving my bandwidth to and most show a regressive way of life. Whereas there's lots of well delivered comedy on BBC Entertainment that one enjoys.
